Whenever there’s a special occasion that requires the giving of gifts, only a few people usually feel the need to spend more than a few moments on thinking about a gift that would really mean a lot to the recipient. When giving gifts, we should always remember that it’s truly the thought that counts so no matter the price tag attached to the gift, if it strikes the recipient as impersonal, the gift would then be not as special as you want it to be.

Whatever the occasion, as long as the recipient is a pet lover, you might try considering giving him or her a portrait of his favorite pet as a gift.

A lot of pets who display almost human intelligence like dogs can serve a lot of purposes in a person’s life and provide not only aid in their daily routines but also friendship and protection. Pets unfortunately have a short life span, compared to that of humans, so people can enjoy only a brief relationship with their pets.

With a portrait of their pets, they’ll be able to remember them and never forget what they look like. When they feel that they miss their favorite pets, they only have to look at the portrait and feel as if their pets are always nearby.

There are artists who specialize in pet portraits. If you’re considering giving pet portraits as a gift, it’s best to spend time researching for artists who truly have expertise in doing pet portraits. Doing pet portraits after all is not as ordinary as sketching apples because you need to master a few skills, for instance, when trying to perfect the look and color of an animal’s fur.

Doing a portrait of any animal or pet would also require an infinite amount of patience and expert guidance that not all artists possess. As they’re animals, it’s impossible to expect them to follow your every order.

If you don’t want to base the pet portraits on photos, you may have to offer your pet several incentives to let him obey your wishes. Offer them treats in exchange of staying still for a certain period of time. If it’s okay with you, a sleeping pet is no doubt a better subject than one who’s awake.

However hard it may be, everything would be worth it when you see the smile on your friend’s face as you give them their much-awaited gift!

Both Animals in Need and Maxicare do terrific work, either re-homing dogs or rescuing a wide range of animals and birds around Northamptonshire and the surrounding districts. They rely hugely on fundraising events and the good will of people to raise the large amounts of money required to keep the two charities going.

If you are not quite sure what you want and would like to discuss it with me, please feel free to either e-mail, telephone me either on my mobile or landline. You could even text and I will get back to you.Â

My telephone numbers are : (44)01604 244345 or 07906200437

If you know what you want and you have a photograph that you can attach to your e-mail, please do so with a brief description of your requirements. Please leave your telephone number, e-mail address and address that you want your portrait sent to. If you live fairly close to Northampton and would prefer to bring the picture/s personally, obviously that would be great. Please do not send your photograph through ordinary post. If you do need to post it, send it either “Special Delivery” or “Recorded Delivery, ” which costs less. I would be willing to take photographs, usually at no cost. However, if it is more than 10 miles from where I live, I would ask for a small “donation” towards the fuel.Â

When your picture is ready, I will send you a digital photograph of it via e-mail. If you are satisfied, you can either pay by Paypal, cheque or Debit/Credit card. When the payment has gone through I will send the picture, normally through Royal Mail’s Recorded Delivery.Â

Post and Packaging is free to any destination in the world and will be mounted and wrapped in cellophane for it’s protection.

Tima Frame : Generally allow yourself 3 weeks. It does depend on how busy I am at the time. It may take less time, but should not take more.

If you are taking a photograph of someone specifically with the aim of using it for artistic purposes, it is important to consider a few things.

Light and shade are important and with this in mind, it is better to take the photograph in daylight, preferably with the light coming in from one side. If it is taken inside, stand or sit the person next to a window so as to take advantage of the light coming through. If it is taken at night, place a soft light slightly behind and to the side, so that soft shadows are created. Do not use a flash!!

As for pose, the best portraits seem to be those where the person is looking slightly to the left or right. Try to get the subject to smile gently, but without showing teeth.

Try to get your pet to look slightly to the left or right of the person taking the photograph, whilst looking alert or in a pose that brings out his/her character.

It is very important to come down to the same level of the subject. Sit on the floor if necessary.

Try to get the photograph with the pets mouth closed. It does make for a better portrait, although this may not always be possible.
