In fact, this goes for any other type of art, be it dog portraits or landscapes, birdlife or wildlife pictures. Starting with the eyes, I moved outwards from there, concentrating on the light and shade of the hair whilst blending in the background. The eyes are central to dog portraits and it is therefore vital that they show the life and character of that animal.

Both Animals in Need and Maxicare do terrific work, either re-homing dogs or rescuing a wide range of animals and birds around Northamptonshire and the surrounding districts. They rely hugely on fundraising events and the good will of people to raise the large amounts of money required to keep the two charities going.

If you are not quite sure what you want and would like to discuss it with me, please feel free to either e-mail, telephone me either on my mobile or landline. You could even text and I will get back to you.Â

My telephone numbers are : (44)01604 244345 or 07906200437

If you know what you want and you have a photograph that you can attach to your e-mail, please do so with a brief description of your requirements. Please leave your telephone number, e-mail address and address that you want your portrait sent to. If you live fairly close to Northampton and would prefer to bring the picture/s personally, obviously that would be great. Please do not send your photograph through ordinary post. If you do need to post it, send it either “Special Delivery” or “Recorded Delivery, ” which costs less. I would be willing to take photographs, usually at no cost. However, if it is more than 10 miles from where I live, I would ask for a small “donation” towards the fuel.Â

When your picture is ready, I will send you a digital photograph of it via e-mail. If you are satisfied, you can either pay by Paypal, cheque or Debit/Credit card. When the payment has gone through I will send the picture, normally through Royal Mail’s Recorded Delivery.Â

Post and Packaging is free to any destination in the world and will be mounted and wrapped in cellophane for it’s protection.

Tima Frame : Generally allow yourself 3 weeks. It does depend on how busy I am at the time. It may take less time, but should not take more.

If you are taking a photograph of someone specifically with the aim of using it for artistic purposes, it is important to consider a few things.

Light and shade are important and with this in mind, it is better to take the photograph in daylight, preferably with the light coming in from one side. If it is taken inside, stand or sit the person next to a window so as to take advantage of the light coming through. If it is taken at night, place a soft light slightly behind and to the side, so that soft shadows are created. Do not use a flash!!

As for pose, the best portraits seem to be those where the person is looking slightly to the left or right. Try to get the subject to smile gently, but without showing teeth.

It is normally best for three people to be involved in photographing your pet: one to hold the pet, one to attract its attention and one to take the picture.

Try to get your pet to look slightly to the left or right of the person taking the photograph, whilst looking alert or in a pose that brings out his/her character.

It is very important to come down to the same level of the subject. Sit on the floor if necessary.

Try to get the photograph with the pets mouth closed. It does make for a better portrait, although this may not always be possible.
